🥇 16 WPML-compatible WordPress themes 2026

🥇 16 WPML-compatible WordPress themes 2026

You switched the language on your site, and the menu broke. Widgets disappeared from the sidebar. The Arabic version looks like a broken prototype from 2007. Everyone who's launched a multilingual WordPress site has been through this stage.

The problem isn't WPML. The plugin faithfully translates content. But the theme must understand that a page has a copy in another language and that RTL layout for Arabic or Hebrew isn't just "flipping the text." Themes that didn't build multilinguality into the code break right here.

We selected 15 themes for specific niches: hotels, agencies, lawyers, eCommerce, beauty, business, media and astrology. We tested each one on multilingual demos: switched languages, ran RTL layout, put menus and WooCommerce products through WPML. No dead products on the list.

💡 Quick overview:

  • The comparison table below will narrow your choice by niche, price and builder in half a minute
  • Screenshots under each heading show the visual style of the theme, which speaks louder than three paragraphs of text
  • Open live demos of three or four finalists and click the language switcher right on the demo site
  • The WPML video overview at the end will answer questions about setting up multilinguality after installing the theme

⁉️🤔 Frequently asked questions

Is it mandatory to get a WPML-compatible theme? Doesn't WPML work with any theme?

WPML works with most themes, but "works" and "works without problems" are different things. An unadapted theme may display translated menus incorrectly or lose widgets when switching languages. These themes are tested by authors for WPML compatibility.

What's more important when choosing a theme: design or WPML compatibility?

WPML compatibility. Design can be adjusted through customization. But if a theme doesn't get along with WPML at the structural level, that's hours of PHP and functions.php edits. All themes in this overview are WPML-compatible, so choose the one that visually fits your niche.

Do I need to pay for WPML separately?

Yes, WPML is a paid plugin. Cost depends on plan: Multilingual Blog ($39/year), Multilingual CMS ($99/year) and Multilingual Agency ($199/year) according to WPML.org. The themes themselves from the overview are one-time purchases on ThemeForest.

Can I use these themes with Polylang instead of WPML?

Technically yes, most themes are compatible with Polylang and TranslatePress. But fine integration, logo switching and taxonomy translation were tested specifically for WPML. With Polylang, some features will require manual tweaking.

How to check WPML compatibility of a theme before purchase?

Open the theme's live demo on ThemeForest. In the demo link, replace the domain with a language version: if the site is on WPML, the URL will change from /en/ to /ar/ or /fr/. Click the language switcher, check menus, widgets and footer. If everything's in place, the theme gets along with WPML.

Is a theme outdated if it came out two or three years ago?

Not necessarily. Quality themes like Enfold and The Ark are updated for years. Look at the changelog: if the latest update came out in 2026 and the list of fixes isn't empty, the theme is alive.

Which theme will suit you exactly

Making a hotel or guest house, take Hemma. Its custom post types for rooms and Google Maps save a week of development. For an agency or photographer portfolio, the best price-to-features balance is Trydo: 30+ widgets and dark mode at an affordable price.

A law firm will suit Lawyers: ready-made practice pages, logo switching by language. For an online store, the optimal choice is Konte: 10 homepage layouts, WPML with WooCommerce multi-currency and two builders included. For a beauty brand, Ruza: fresh theme with Elementor, Slider Revolution and full WooCommerce stack.

For a corporate site or clinic, Consulting WP: 50+ demos, two builders and Cost Calculator for services. Universal Enfold remains a classic for those who value SEO, documentation and stability. And if you need full control over every pixel, The Ark with 223+ blocks and Fresh Builder won't disappoint.

Open live demos of three or four finalists and check language switching. WPML compatibility is visible in action, not in the ThemeForest description. Which theme saved your multilingual project, write in the comments.
